Should the French First Lady take up an acting career?
- ‘And… Action !’ Carla Bruni-Sarkozy began her long-awaited cinema acting career yesterday in Paris. She couldn’t have dreamed of a better debut. The film concerned, ‘Midnight in Paris’, is being directed by no other than cinema legend Woody Allen.
France’s First Lady turned up for her first day of work on the film dressed casually in a white shirt, blue jeans, ballerina shoes and with her hair tied back.
‘Midnight in Paris’ is the brainchild of American film icon Woody Allen who has come over to Paris to begin filming it. Set in Paris, the film is “A romantic comedy about a family travelling to the French capital for business. The party includes a young engaged couple forced to confront the illusion that a life different from their own is better” according to Hollywood cinema and showbiz site 'The Hollywood Reporter’.
The film will feature Michael Sheen, Cathy Bates, Rachel McAdams, Owen Wilson, Marion Cotillard and, of course, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy.

She was welcomed onto the set for the day’s shooting by Allen himself, who was wearing his usual trademark cotton sunhat and kissed her on both cheeks “à-la-française.” They were joined by Owen Wilson, who was there to shoot scenes with Bruni, and the shoot, which took place in a small grocery shop in the 5th district of the capital, lasted several hours. The street was closed to traffic and the public were held back from the area by bodyguards.
Allen began filming in Paris at the beginning of July in a Haussmann-style apartment building situated in a working-class area of the Right Bank.
